Strings FAMILY Responsibilities!
Also known as... How does this all work and what do I have to do?
- Enroll your student in strings using the Google Form link found HERE!
- CHECK YOUR EMAIL FREQUENTLY! This will be my primary means of communication this year.
- Attend BACK TO MUSIC NIGHT! This will be a special presentation on September 5th, 2023 at 6:30pm in the CES Cafeteria. This is a presentation for all CES families participating in music ensembles. You'll hear more about the schedule, the concerts, and how to rent an instrument
- Make sure your student has what they need by SEPTEMBER 18. You can find all of that information on required materials HERE!
- You and your student will receive STIRNGS CALENDARS monthly. This is also how you will know their class group name, their class days, and what time they have class each week (it rotates so they don't miss other subjects too much!) There will also be a virtual calendar link that will always be up to date!
- Help them in remembering to bring the instrument, book, and supplies on the days they have a strings class. When the schedule is set, you will receive the paper copies, see it on this website, on Canvas, and in an email sent to the address you used to sign up!
- See that they play/practice the instrument at home. I will tell them what to do, but you have to see that they actually do it.
- Understand that motivation wanes and practicing is hard. Practicing is trying to get yourself to do something that you don’t know how to do yet! It requires A LOT of trial and error. Help your student push past it. In my opinion, it's more important that they practice frequently, even if it's not very long each time!
- Expect to make some mistakes along the way. We all do! We’re in this together.
IMPORTANT
Strings is an “opt -in” program. Classes will be scheduled during the school day which means students will miss a 30-minute part of the day, twice a week, in order to come to strings. All of the teachers know this (homeroom, GT, related arts, etc..). Myself and the other teachers WILL work with the students on learning and practicing responsibility. We will utilize several best practices that will help your student learn how to find out what they missed.
It is not a perfect system but it is the framework in which we will work. All we can do is our best! If you have any questions or simply need to talk through something, reach out to me via email and we can set up a phone call.
Looking forward to working with you!
